There is a moment in 'The Beginning of Knowledge' that causes a great deal of emotions to rise up within me.
When I was almost 11 years old, I left the house with my brother, Roger. Roger was almost 3 years older than me. He was my best friend and understood me where no one else could. This one morning, Roger and I were headed to school. That day was the hardest day I have had to live through. That day as we were riding home on our bikes, my world changed forever.
Onm the 19th day of September, my brother was hit by a 14 year old girl who was just a few months older than him. I was almost hit; the truck was very close to me. But I was not affected by that fact. I watched as the metal of the old GMC truck smash into the bike that my brother rode. His body flew twenty feet.
Roger did not survive that accident. And I had trouble dealing with it. I did not use this experience to exploit my brother. I have used extremely emotional experiences from my life to bring a unique feel of true life to my characters.
However you bring life to your characters, go with it. Own your processes. That is what I do. Have a great day and happy writing.
